Brett Humphries - "Vintage Cider" |
Still-life painting has always been an act of supreme technical execution, a reality projected in an iconographic construction of wellness, at least in the classical tradition, to seduce the eyes.
Brett Humphries moves from classics to promote a delicious visual foodie hedonism: in his artworks, there is pleasure seeing and imagining tastes and moments of degustation. A Mediterranean pursuit of happiness could be breathe in every canvas of the artist, the sense of satisfaction through the wine, chocolate, fruits, cheese and bread are floating around his depictions. Depictions travelling from the American farmers producing vintage cider to Italian ancient cult of olives are being exhibited until this November 26, in the
Catto Gallery London. An enjoyable opportunity to contemplate examples of his work.
