Monica Rohan - Hollow, 2018, oil on board |
It is time to say goodbye to the artworks exhibited at Sophie Gannon Gallery during this September: a group of paintings by Australian artist Monica Rohan that have left us with the eyes wide opened and the expectation of seeing how her art evolves in the future.
We are particularly attracted with the imagery developed by Rohan: “
Nowhere Near” has shown the ability of the artist to impregnate the canvas with a mix of playful figurative depictions and movement coming from nature elements like trees, that in final composition reach a peculiar transition to abstract forms fighting to prevail. Human figures are painted in constant extension of themselves, their legs are visually elongated and most of times, with the complicity of chairs, they build the repetitive forms that establish the singularity of the artist. Better results are shown when Rohan leaves apart from the nature color palette of greens and browns, and she experiments including turquoise and rose tones. Let’s see what happens with her next artworks. But now, almost 20 paintings have been part of the exhibition that lasts until this September 29, 2018. Here a sample of the best ones.
