"Walled Garden" by Simon Garden - oil on panel, 2017. |
With some subtle applications of light across the desolated prairies, the green landscapes of Simon Garden have developed their own personality through the visual language of poetry stuff. In his paintings, there is not search of a noisy fickle colors composition support. There is narrative, there is a storytelling invitation.
Based on earthy colors and a technique which plays with oils on panel, Simon Garden creates a particular granulated texture ambient, his works unfold an old aesthetic that implies on the spectator the sensation to be enjoying art from other times. And more than humans, the trees are the main character on his visual proposal: crowning with flowers, they used to appear in asynchronous movements confronting a not existing wind.
In “Walled Garden”, the artist conceives a hill bathed in sunshine while the trees dance the choreography of happiness. The man in the base of the image takes his time to begin climbing the route trace on the grass, he raise his arm as looking for a door chime, probably he does not believe the apparent clarity of the road, and suspect a strange tricky selection on the air.
In “Valley”, the clarity of the road becomes rough memories left behind; the couple of walkers take a breath while they are absorbed by the immensity of the surroundings. Hand on hand, two different tracks of life are now united and contemplate the new pathway on the horizon, horizon that claims its own intriguing end of story: the light has gone, and the dancing trees, in brotherhood with clouds, have begun the dramatic revolt in the picture.
With an extensive presentation of new paintings of Simon Garden, “The Stuff of Poetry” is housed by the
Catto Gallery, London. In the exhibition, people could see around 50 pieces of the artist moderated use of paint as texture; his landscapes and slight voyages into magical realism are images that could wake up in the spectator the interest to reveal its own inherent stories. The art gallery will show the artworks until March 19, 2018.
